Despite positive intentions and enormous effort, most modern healthcare interventions in low-resource settings fail. Global Hospital implements transformative interventions with real and measurable impact.
We work with governments, NGOs, and private companies to plan, execute, and maintain healthcare infrastructure projects where they are needed the most. The factors affecting the availability of quality healthcare vary greatly — from poverty to extreme weather events to lack of clinical training — but there is a common thread anywhere you look: access to quality healthcare can change a person's life.
In 2015, Garreth and Nicola Wood learned about the incredible work of Dr. John Sekabira, a pediatric surgeon in Uganda. Every morning, he arrived at his local hospital to advocate for his patients, hoping to be given access to an operating room. Sometimes he was successful. Frequently, those rooms were allocated to adults.
The solution was simple – build a dedicated operating room for children’s surgery. With support from Garreth and Nicola, that vision became a reality, and Uganda’s first operating room for children’s surgery opened its doors. That one-off solution kicked off a string of successful pediatric surgery projects around the world. A few years later Kids Operating Room officially launched, quickly establishing itself as the leading global charity focused on surgical infrastructure for children. By the end of 2024 there will be 100 KidsOR sites around the world.
Now, that vision is being expanded even further. Building on the successful foundation and expertise of KidsOR, Global Hospital is replicating that success for patients of all ages. As a commercial enterprise, our goal is to help our customers implement healthcare solutions that work.
Though Global Hospital is a commercial enterprise, our business model is focused on giving back. 100% of profits go to KidsOR to support their life-saving mission to enhance surgical services for children in low-resource settings. Support for KidsOR funds the construction of more operating rooms dedicated to surgery for children, gives more surgeons access to equipment they need to operate safely, and funds the training of more medical staff to provide life-changing and life-saving surgery to thousands of children.
Improving patient outcomes requires the right planning, equipment, and training. Every project meets the highest standards of care. That means modern medical equipment, attentive design, and up-to-date training.
We build and maintain strong relationships with our customers, local providers, and suppliers to ensure every project adequately supports the needs of the community, maximizes budget restraints, and improves patient outcomes.
No two projects are the same, and no challenge is too big for us. We go to areas of the world where we’re needed most and think outside the box to build solutions that address localized challenges.
We deliver projects that can be maintained long after completion to ensure long-term viability of patient care and minimize the environmental impact of every facility we build.
We continuously refine our services to implement the latest clinical learnings and technological advancements and build products like our Solar Surgery system to increase patient safety.
Global Hospital is wholly owned by KidsOR, the leading global charity focused on developing surgical infrastructure for children. Every penny of profit goes back into KidsOR to enhance surgical services for children around the world.
