About
Solar Surgery
Powering tomorrow's patient care
Solar Surgery is an award-winning product designed by the Global Hospital team to facilitate safe surgery in low-resource settings.
It can be used to power any essential medical equipment up to and beyond an entire operating room – ultimately improving outcomes and safety for patients, protecting expensive medical equipment, reducing operational costs for hospitals, and decreasing carbon footprints in the community.
Benefits of Solar Surgery
100% Solar Powered
Primary power source for all essential equipment using solar panels and provides more than 8 hours of backup power after sundown with normal use.
Surge Protection
Eliminates voltage irregularities, power surges, and spikes to protect equipment, prolong equipment lifespan, and maximize infrastructure investment.
Environmentally Friendly
Eliminates the need for expensive and polluting diesel fuel or environmentally destructive hydroelectric generators.
Cost Effective
Minimizes power draw from faulty or unstable electric grids and reduces overall electrical costs to power healthcare facilities.
Patient Safety
Ensures uninterrupted power to an operating room during a power outage, keeping patients safe, and improving surgical outcomes.
Ease of Use
Provides a low-maintenance electrical solution that can be quickly and easily installed in low-resource settings.
Putting Our Expertise To Work
Born out of our experience developing surgical systems across more than 40 countries, our Solar Surgery System has undergone extensive development testing. First in our UK center where the system was designed and tested in a purpose-built operating room using northern hemisphere sun levels. After months of development, the system was deployed to four hospitals for live testing in Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.
Following these successful trials, Solar Surgery is currently being used in over fifteen countries around the world and providing an immediate impact. In these hospitals, power cuts no longer interrupt surgery.
How Solar Surgery Works
Providing enough solar power to run any operating room, and surge protection for all the equipment in use, Solar Surgery stores surplus energy in a battery and seamlessly integrates it when needed. Even after dark, the surgical team will have more than 8 hours of normal usage before the system will finally revert to the hospital grid supply.
Installed by qualified engineers who provide local training, and with a three-year warranty, the Solar Surgery System is a ‘plug and play’ solution to crippling power outages.
